As a Supply Chain HLA you will provide support to the whole business, with your ideas and knowledge being listened to and supported. We will give you the learning opportunities you require to become knowledgeable in your discipline whilst undertaking on the job training to achieve your NVQ level 4 in Supply Chain Management. We’re a strategic partner to the MOD and the Royal Navy, helping to improve efficiency at Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth. Our unique facilities and infrastructure mean that we can undertake 100% of submarine refits, as well as around 75% of UK surface fleet refits and 50% of fleet maintenance work. Half of the Royal Navy surface fleet is base-ported in Devonport, including Type 23 frigates, the Amphibious Assault fleet, and their hydrographic vessels. That’s the kind of epic engineering projects we take care of.
To get involved in them, you’ll need to have a relevant A-Level (detailed below) or NVQ L2 Business Admin plus experience in our industry, along with the ability to think on your feet and challenge yourself. We love to help promote STEM subjects amongst kids so it would be great if you were up for getting involved with our work in local schools.

As a Supply Chain HLA you will combine on the job learning with formal training to gain experience and knowledge in the Supply Chain area. From day one we will assign you a mentor that understands your business area and can mentor you through your development program. Together with the direction of your line manager and support from our Learning and Development team you will be given the opportunity to work on interesting projects, meet key stakeholders in the business, and deliver real outputs that will make a difference. As well gaining an NVQ L4 in Supply Chain Management you will undertake many of our in house training courses that will enable you to understand our business in greater detail and the way we work. We hope that after you complete your L4 qualification you will able to develop further and this will be agreed between yourself, your manager and your mentor.
Rewards and Recognition:
As a HLA your starting salary will be £15,185 for your first year. When you progress on to your second year your salary will increase to £20,555. After this there will be regular pay reviews where your salary will increase subject to appraisals and performance. In addition to your salary we pay for all of your required training and qualifications. We will also pay for any affiliations to your institutions and relevant CPD. Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum of 5 GCSE’s A* - C including English and Mathematics or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 A-Levels at grade C or above. One to be in Business, Law or a related subject area.
Requirements of the Role
With direction the post holder tasks will include but not be limited to:
Providing excellent Customer Service
Assisting colleagues with problem solving & delivering process efficiencies.
Preparation of documents
Assist with analysis of supply chain data & report preparation.
Co-ordinate and administer meetings / courses etc….. for the department
Manage incoming & outgoing mail
Deal with internal and external telephone queries
Provide document control.
Photocopy/scanning/filing of documents as and when required.
Undertake training as required.
Provide support to colleagues with various tasks, as required.
Develop an understanding of how the supply chain function operates within Babcock.

Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.
This position is employed within the Devonport Royal Dockyard as a Higher Level Apprentice, on a fixed term contract for 2 years. The starting salary will be £15,565 per annum which will increase to £20,555 in the second year with DRDL Terms and Conditions.
This role is based at Devonport Royal Dockyard which is located in the vibrant city of Plymouth, Devon. Plymouth is a city with a long and proud military history and more than its fair share of heritage. This role is within the Marine and Technology Division. The division employs over 9,000 highly skilled people and is the UK's leading naval support business. It draws on an unmatched range of engineering and technical skills in providing through-life services and deep maintenance to the Royal Navy's major warships and nuclear-powered submarines, in addition to operating a wide range of strategic shore based naval support facilities such as Devonport Dockyard.
