Infrastructure and Integration Services (I&IS) designs, builds and operates BP’s core IT services. It is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the technology people rely on every day to do their job; these services include; computers, telephones, email, wireless, conferencing; helpdesk support for end-users of services; and the design, build and operation of BP’s IT&S infrastructure and systems, such as data centers and networks.
Within I&IS, the Network Services team has a responsibility for delivery of an evergreen, fully elastic, agile & globally consistent set of Network Services that are adaptive to constantly changing business priorities & user expectations. Comprising one of the largest corporate networks in the world, these services span over 700 operating sites, offices, and production facilities with further support of nearly 14,000 retail fuel stations.
The Network Automation and Operations Engineer plays a key role in the design, development and operations of BP’s network backbone. Reporting directly into the Manager of Network Dev/Ops, a successful candidate has a deep passion for technology and networking and can leverage increasing automation capabilities and new technologies to drive innovative solutions to ever evolving requirements. Familiar with adjacent technology areas like platforms and storage and fluent in scripting and automation technologies, the engineer can embed within a dev/ops cell to rapidly develop new capability and deliver value to internal customers. Cognizant of the breadth of impact inherent in at-scale automations, a successful candidate knows how to assess risk and build in controls to ensure delivery at-pace does not conflict with operational stability. Above all, they have a passion for removing friction from process and always seek faster and safer ways of driving change.
Embed within BP’s Cloud Service Line and Cloud Network Exchange Program to influence, assist in the design of and ultimately operate the core devices supporting BP’s next generation network backbone.
Leverage scripting and automation capabilities inherent in next-generation technologies like Cisco APIC-EM to facilitate the rapid provisioning of network services in support of BP’s data center exit strategy.
Assist in the piloting and eventual deployment of Hybrid WAN technologies as the replacement for legacy MPLS-dominated campus WAN Solution
Assist in the development of analytical capabilities necessary to support real-time traffic engineering requirements to support Hybrid WAN and Datacenter migration activities
Drive the adoption of increased automation through the organization and serve as a champion for tighter integration of data across adjacent organization
Explore new technologies and approaches to deliver network services within public cloud solutions, remain fluent and champion new approaches and technologies
Create and present network solutions to varying audiences of senior executives, stakeholders and members of the technical staff
Relevant degree (Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Management of Information Systems (MIS), Mathematics or other hard science) from a recognized institute of higher education
Certification and/or real-world experience equivalent to CCNP level capability in route/switch to include BGP, OSPF, Layer 7 firewall concepts, acceleration services and VRFs
Essential experience and job requirements
Proficiency in major scripting technologies or languages (bash, PowerShell, Python, Ruby, etc.) with ability to rapidly learn similar languages as required
Functional knowledge and familiarity with key concepts of adjacent domains (windows and unix platforms, storage technologies, etc.)
Experience with consuming APIs using major scripting or programming languages
Exposure to network function virtualization and service chaining concepts
Experience with modern wifi and lan solutions
Experience with Hybrid WAN solutions (iWAN, etc.)
Ability to present technical concepts, plans and solutions to audiences of senior executives or stakeholders
Other Requirements (e.g. Travel, Location)

Experience with APIC-EM or like solutions
