NIHR Translational Neuroscience Biomedical Research Centre Manager
This is an exciting opportunity to develop and shape the establishment of the NIHR Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), working with the BRC Director Professor Dame Pamela Shaw; the successful candidate will oversee all operational aspects of the NIHR Sheffield BRC in order to deliver the BRC contract.
You will be responsible for project managing the establishment of the BRC, liaising closely with colleagues within the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Clinical Research Office, Academic Directorate of Neuroscience, Clinical Research Facility and colleagues within the University of Sheffield.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in partnership with the University of Sheffield was designated as one of twenty NIHR BRCs by the Government in April 2017.
The NIHR BRC in Sheffield will focus on translational neuroscience and will host the development of new, ground-breaking treatments, diagnostics, prevention and care for patients suffering from debilitating diseases such as dementia, motor neurone disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's and Parkinson disease.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a forward-looking and positive person who has an excellent working knowledge and understanding of the NHS, along with managerial experience in a large, complex organisation.
The successful candidate will have extensive management experience within a scientific, research or medical organisation and be able to demonstrate an ability to quickly and easily build good working relationships and an enthusiasm for taking on new challenges. They will evidence political astuteness and strategic thinking along with an eye for detail and accuracy. Their written skills will be first class, with experience of drafting high quality reports and they will demonstrate a commitment to values-based leadership.
The ideal candidate will evidence an inclusive approach, seeking and listening to views or advice. They will take direction, whilst also being confident in taking decisions and directing their own work along with the work of their team. They will be focused and work to timescales whilst being flexible to adapt to changing context or demands.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis until 31 March 2022 due to the post being recruited as part of a limited term project within the Trust. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the requirement for the post to be maintained as a part of the project's implementation and the timescales associated with this.
