Reporting to the Head of Record to Report, the role is accountable for working as part of a high performing team in a fast-moving shared service environment where passion, creativity and excellence are key. The core operational responsibilities of this role include; accountability for the maintenance and reporting of the M & S plc Fixed Asset register, reconciliation of key control accounts relating to the Property & IT cost areas owning the delivery of any internal or external audit reccomendations in relation to these areas.
The incumbent will require a mix of technical accounting and shared service experience and will be able to demonstrate a range of strategic skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively across a wide range of stakeholders. They will also lead change across the Fixed Assets, Property & IT reconciliations team ensuring that a strong control environment is maintained at all times.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong audit and control ethic alongside an excellent technical accounting skill set and good business acumen. Excellent stakeholder management will be imperative within this role; being confident and able to review high volumes of data, identify anomalies and work collaboratively with our stakeholders across both finance and commercial teams to remediate issues will be crucial success indicators in this role.
In addition to the finance manager the team is made up of 4 finance professionals who are at varying stages of their professional qualifications. Strong and effective people management skills are required to provide guidance around career management and personal development. The successful applicant will also support and challenge the team to deliver insightful analysis and deliver a service that improves the understanding of financial and accounting information.
The operational requirements of the team will also need to be managed and a strong contribution to the strategic direction of the Business Service Centre is important. The individual will take responsibility to drive their own and their team�s performance and standards, monitoring and working to defined SLA and KPI targets.
Key accountabilities include
� Build strong relationships with key business customers, managing regular dialogue to continue to drive improved performance, both within the reporting team and the wider Business Service Centre
� Manage operational projects and change, with regular engagement and solutions to deliver a positive experience for our customers
� Develop a continuous improvement culture within the team to ensure that the service is being delivered in the most effective way, putting the customer at the heart of everything the team delivers.
� Line manage, coach and develop team members, creating succession and developing talent
� Implement quality assurance measures to ensure that all team output meets the expected standards
� Work with your team and stakeholders to identify improvements in the control environment
� Accountable for implementing and executing comprehensive quality checks to improve the quality of output
� Working with the SAP Support teams and Finance Systems Manager to exploit reporting and Business Insight
� Supporting the delivery of a centre of excellence for Balance Sheet reconciliations
� Accountable for meeting agreed performance objectives and ways of working
� Accountable for identifying and progressing areas for personal development
Technical skills/business skills required
� Strong accounting skills with previous experience of working in a fast-paced environment
� Exceptional stakeholder management / business partnering skills with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels
� Experience of Fixed Asset accounting (preferably within an organisation with a large asset base)
� Excellent numerical and analytical skills (must be CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified)
� Experience of project management is desirable
� Advanced Excel user.
� Experience of using SAP (preferably including the Fixed Assets register)
